NABI ADAM HAWA

PROPHET ADAM AND HAWWA (EVE)

MULIA: When was Prophet Adam being created? If we infer from the number of Prophets, and assuming there were no gap and no overlapping of tenure among them, plus an assumption that all of them had standard live-span of up to one thousand years, then the first human was created possibly 124,000 years ago. Remember this only a guesstimate and questionable. Prophet Muhammad and several other Prophets demised at the age below 100 years old, and there were several cases where one community served by several Prophets at the same time. Only Allah knows the truth.

FAEZ: Allah created Adam a human on a Friday, and he remained as an earthen body (no life yet) for forty years. Iblis had entered Adam’s hollow body through his (Adam) mouth and came out by his anus. Allah breathed the soul in Adam, through his head, then his eyes, further down to his stomach, and lastly entered into his legs. All jinn were commanded to prostrate before Adam, however Iblis (one of the jinn) refrained from doing so.

TEGUH: The jinn lived about two thousand years before Adam came to the earth. But what about the period when Adam was in the Paradise? The jinn are created out of searing fire, angels are created from light, and Adam was created from sounding clay of moulded mud. Adam was sixty cubits tall, where one cubit is approximately length of forearm.

AKHTAR: We always refer Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) as the most handsome person. But Prophet Yusuf was given half of the beauty of Adam. It is not a surprise, because Allah created and shaped Adam by His Noble Hand. Allah must have created him in the best of shape and beauty.

TEGUH: Adam was made to dwell in the Paradise alone. However once he slept and when he woke up, he found a woman sitting near his head, whom Allah had created from the shortest rib of Adam’s left side. This was told by Suddi narrated through Abu Salih and Abu Malik from Ibn Abbas and Ibn Mas’ud. However in the Quran there is nothing mention about the rib except regarding Hawwa only, as stated in surah Al-Nisa 4: 1 and surah Al-A’raaf 7: 189.

MULIA: Whereabouts of this Paradise that Adam was admitted into? The opinion of the majority of the scholars is that this Paradise was in the haven, called Jannatul-Ma’wa (the Garden of Abode).

TEGUH: How was the communication between Adam and Iblis? There were many possible answers, namely (1) Iblis met Adam/Hawwa inside the Paradise while Iblis was passing by, not being a resident there; (2) Iblis whispered his evil thoughts to Adam from the gate of the Paradise; (3) the so called Paradise was on the earth, because it was not possible for Adam’s children to reach the Paradise in the haven. Only Allah knows the truth.

AKHTAR: It was Hawwa who ate first from that Tree and it was her who incited Adam to eat from it. They were expelled from Paradise on a Friday too. The scholars are of different opinion about the duration of stay of Adam and Hawwa in Paradise. If they were on the same day, then it will be assumed that they stayed only a few hours. According to Ibn Jarir, one hour of it is equal to 83 years and 4 months.

FAEZ: Allah has created Adam from soils (various colours) which He had gathered from all over the earth. This is how the children of Adam came according to the colour and nature of the earth. There are white, red, black and cross colours. Among them who are good or bad nature, soft as well as harsh and in between.

MULIA: They had their children only on the earth. They had at every birth, twin of one sex each. They were commanded that every son should marry the sister of his brother, with whom she was born, and the other son should marry the other sister. No one was allowed to marry his sister with whom he was born.

TEGUH: According to certain literature, Hawwa gave birth to forty children in twenty pregnancies. In another version, she had 120 pregnancies. The eldest of them was Cain with Qalima, and the youngest of them were Abdul Mughith with Umm-ul-Mughith. It is also stated, Adam saw 400,000 of his children and grandchildren before he died.

AKHTAR: How long did Adam live? One thousand years, i.e. 43 years in the Paradise and 957 years his stay on the earth. After his death, his son Seth, took charge of his mission and Seth was a prophet too.
FAEZ: Where was Adam buried? Certain scholars said Adam was buried near to the mountain where he descended in India. Another opinion, Adam was buried on the mountain of Abu Qabis in Makkah. Also, buried at Baitul-Maqdis in Jerusalem. Allah knows better.
