NABI MUSA (MOSES)
SEA SPLITS

MULIA: Israelites, under Pharaoh’s rule in Egypt, were being exploited and dealt unjustly, forcing them to take up only the lowest professions. Not only that, he killed their males and sparing their women. These series of killing was to make them feel helpless and humiliated. They want them to remain as their slaves providing them manpower. The reason behind this evil practice was the beliefs of Israelites that, there will come an Israelites child who will destroy the kingdom of Pharaoh.

AKHTAR: The Israelites stayed in Egypt for about four hundred and twenty-six years. One fine day, Israelites sought Pharaoh’s permission to go to one of their festivals. He granted them, but Israelites actually prepared to depart from Egypt forever. It was, in fact, a plot to flee from Egypt, numbering about half a million. They left Egypt at once heading towards the land of Syria.

TEGUH: When Pharaoh came to know about their departure, he became extremely angry with them. He asked his army to get ready to follow them, and punish them. The number of his army exceeded one-and-a–half million personnel.

FAEZ: Pharaoh approached Israelites with his army. It was morning time at sunrise. There was no escape for the Israelites. In front of them was the sea, and behind them were Pharaoh’s army. On both sides of them were high mountains.

TEGUH: Moses was at the front of the Israelites, and then looked at the sea with its huge waves. He was with his brother Prophet Harun and Joshua bin Nuh (who later became prophet too). When Pharaoh got closer and closer, the Israelites started panicking.

MULIA: Then came the Revelation to Moses: “Strike the sea with your staff (stick)”. So he struck it. And it parted into 12 paths, each path for each tribe of Israelites. The water stood like huge mountain on each side. Then the east wind blew, and it dried the paths to make it easy to pass through it.

AKHTAR: Moses led his people through it. However when they had passed through it by their last person, Pharaoh and his army were about to enter it. Moses wanted to strike the sea again so as to block the way of the Pharaoh’s army. Then Allah commanded Moses to leave the sea as it was (with the twelve paths), so Pharaoh and his army could enter it.

FAEZ:When Pharaoh saw the Israelites passing through the passage made across the sea, he got frightened and knew that it was from Moses’s Mighty Lord. Pharaoh dared not to go in. Suddenly Gabriel (angel) came in the guise of a cavalier on a horse and passed by Pharaoh’s horse and neighed to it. Then Gabriel entered the split sea, and behind him followed Pharaoh’s horse, which he could not control.

TEGUH: When his army saw Pharaoh entering the sea, they all entered behind him at once. When all of them were in the sea, Allah commanded Moses to strike the sea with his staff. As soon as he struck it, the sea returned to its former state, and no one could survive from them.

MULIA: Pharaoh realised that he was helpless, he immediately proclaimed his belief in Allah, and showed his repentance. However, it was a time that no repentance could be accepted.

AKHTAR: Israelites saw with their naked eyes how the bodies of Pharaoh and his army were floating on the wild waves with no one to help them. Some Israelites were doubtful of Pharaoh’s death, so Allah commanded the sea to raise his body high on the wave. He was wearing his armour with which he was recognised, and so his death was confirmed. They were drowned on the Day of Ashura.

FAEZ: Israelites were and are noted for their stubbornness. When they were suffered from any adversity, they promised that they would change their attitudes, and believe in Moses as Messenger and obey Allah. However, they broke every promise they made, and did not reform themselves. Allah gave them every opportunity before they were punished.
