“SOLAT”
FUNERAL PRAYER
AKHTAR: A funeral prayer is not the same as the obligatory or sunnat prayer. Normally in a normal prayer we need to have ablution, and need to perform rukuk (bowing) and sujud (prostration) among others.
TEGUH: However, in performing a funeral prayer it is not necessary to undertake ablution, but it is preferable. There is no rukuk (bowing) and sujud (prostration) in funeral prayer.
FAEZ: In a funeral prayer, we need to stand all along. There are 4 takbirs (saying Allahu Akbar) in the funeral prayer, i.e.
(1) First takbir – Allahu Akbar
Recite Surah Al-Fatihah
(2) Second takbir – Allahu Akbar
Send blessing on Allah’s Messenger
(3) Third takbir – Allahu Akbar
Invoke blessing of Allah on the deceased and on the Muslims.
(4) Fourth takbir - Salutation i.e. conclude the solat.
TEGUH: If the deceased is a male, the Iman should stand beside his head, and if it is a female, the Iman should stand beside the middle part of her body.
MULIA: If a Muslim dies and forty men (certain hadith mentioned hundred) , who associate nothing with Allah, stand to perform his funeral prayer, and all of them ask Allah’s forgiveness for him, their prayer for him will be accepted.
AKHTAR: A funeral prayer can be performed even in the absence of the deceased.
FAEZ: There are three periods which forbade us to pray, or bury our dead: (1) when the sun begins to rise until it becomes high, (2) when the sun is at its height at midday until it passes the meridian, and (3) when the sun draws near setting until it sets.
TEGUH: However if there is no other time available than the prohibited times, then burial is permissible.
