THE HOLY QURAN
WORDS IN THE QURAN - WAHYU

TEGUH: Some scholars had listed 55 to 90 names of the Holy Quran. But among them these five are the most acceptable, namely (1) Al-Quran (The Reading); (2) Al-Furqan (The Criterion); (3) Az-Zikr (The Advice); (4) Al-Kitab (The Book); and (5) At-Tanzeel (The Revelation). However Al-Quran is the most popular name, whereby Allah Himself has mentioned it not less than sixty-one times in the Quran.

FAEZ: Allah is the Creator and the Master of this universe. He created such an amazing system of sun, moon, heavens, earth, stars and planets. This system runs well knit and organised manner, no clashes of sun against moon whatsoever etc. Sure Allah has not left us human beings in darkness but has definitely established system for our guidance. It is this organised system of guidance contained in the al-Quran and Sunnah preached by the various Prophets during their respective times.

AKHTAR: In the Quran stated Allah has appoints us as khalifah, i.e. whereby the entire universe has been placed at our service. We must make use of the universe around us in the right manner. While using these facilities, we must keep in view the Commandments of Allah and do nothing against His will. It will be impossible for us to live in accordance with the pleasure of Allah unless we know what He likes, and what he does not like. All these major principles are contained in the Quran and Sunnah.

MULIA: So we need to know more about the Quran. Those wordings in the Quran are words of Allah that are sent down to Prophet Muhammad (saw) by means of Wahyu. Allah sends His message to Prophet Muhammad through angel Jibril by three modes; namely (1) sometimes Jibril is not visible but only his voice is heard; (2) sometimes he (Jibril) comes in a human figure and conveys the message, and (3) twice he is seen in his original form.

TEGUH: The voice of Jibril resembling the sound of ringing bells. However some scholars think it was the flutter of angle’s wing that made the sound. Anyhow the exact nature of the voice is only known to Allah and Prophet Muhammad. This method of Wahyu used to be the hardest on Prophet Muhammad, his breathing became difficult, his face turned pale, his front teeth began to clatter with cold and sweat profusely. Animal on whom he rode could not stand the weight and would sit down.

AKHTAR: Jibril used to appear in a human form to convey the message. Generally Jibril came in the form of the renowned companion Dihyah Kalbi, who probably was the most handsome person of his time. Sometimes Jibril came in other appearances too. This manner of Wahyu, Prophet Muhammad did not experience much hardship.

FAEZ: The third method of Wahyu was Jibril came in his original appearance. But this happen only twice, namely (1) when Prophet Muhammad wished to see Jibril in his original form; and (2) at the time of Ascension of the Prophet to Havens.

MULIA: The Wahyu that was revealed to Prophet Muhammad was of two kinds; (1) Quranic Wahyu, and (2) Non-Quranic Wahyu. The one that we have discussed earlier was Quranic Wahyu. It comprised verses of the Quran in which the words and meanings were both from Allah and they have been preserved in the Quran forever till the Last Day, it has not changed nor can be modified.

TEGUH: Only the fundamental beliefs and basic teachings of Islam have been defined through the Quran. Details of these teachings and subsidiary tenets have been sent through Non-Quranic Wahyu. This Non-Quranic Wahyu has been preserved in the form of traditions (sayings and deeds) of Prophet Muhammad, which we termed as Hadith.

FAEZ: In this Non-Quranic Wahyu only the subject matter was revealed from Allah to Prophet Muhammad, who then expressed it in his own words. Normally this kind of Wahyu is directed to the heart of Prophet Muhammad which Allah inspires something into it. There no medium of Jibril. This may happen in his sleep or wakefulness. We normally refer it as Hadith Krusi.
