NABI MUSA (MOSES)
HIS FIRST REVELATION
MULIA: Prophet Moses bin Imran bin Qahath bin Azar bin Levy bin Jacob bin Issac bin Abraham. Peace be upon them. His mother’s name was Jochebed.
AKHTAR: Jochebed used to put baby Moses in a chest (a cradle box). One day when she let the chest go in the Nile, she forgot to tie it with her house. The chest was swept away till it passed by the Pharaoh’s palace. The slave-girls of Pharaoh picked Moses up from the Nile, and brought it to the wife of Pharaoh, Asiyah binti Muzhim. Pharaoh and his wife had no children.
TEGUH: When Moses was taken inside Pharaoh’s palace, he did not feed or eat any food from any one. They became helpless, and sent him to the market so that they might find someone who could feed him. While they were waiting there, Moses’s sister spotted him and offered to show them a lady who could look and feed the baby.
FAEZ: Once they reached the house, Jochebed (Moses’s mother) took him and put him to her breast. He immediately started suckling. They felt overjoyed and sent message to inform Asiyah, who then summoned Jochebed to the palace. Jochebed rejected the offer to stay in the palace to suckle the baby. So Moses happily returned to his mother in her humble home whenever feeding time.
AKHTAR: Pharaoh’s wife treated Moses very well at the palace, without knowing Jochebed was his biological mother. Aisah dressed him with the best clothes fed him the best food and provided the best shelter, till the time he reached puberty.
MULIA: Now we discuss Moses when he reached his puberty. One afternoon he found two people fighting, one of them from his own people (Israelites) and the other from Coptic Egyptian. Moses struck the Egyptian with his fist and killed him, though not intentionally. Moses asked forgiveness from Allah, and Allah forgave him.
AKHTAR: Moses became frightened because Pharaoh will discover that he was helping an Israelite, that Moses actually belonged to them. Moses departed from Egypt at once, not knowing where to go. He had never gone out of Egypt before. Moses eating only plants and leaves. He was barefooted and desperately needed some decent food.
However, he reached the wells of Madyan, he found thereupon a group of men watering their flocks and besides them two ladies trying to keep their flocks apart. Madyan was the city where Allah destroyed the people of Thicket. They were the people of the Prophet Shu’aib.
TEGUH: When the shepherds had watered their flocks, they put back a huge stone on the mouth of the well. The ladies did not had the strength to remove the stone, usually collected the water left over from the flocks of shepherds. The stone can only be lifted by ten men. However, that day Moses came and removed the stone and watered the flocks for them, and put the stone back in its place.
FAEZ: When the ladies came back home, their father was surprised to see them early. They related the incident to their father, who then asked them to bring him home. Moses related to the old man his story why he had to leave Egypt. The old man offered one of his daughters in marriage to Moses, provided he serve the family for eight years.
AKHTAR: After Moses has fulfilled the term for ten years, he left with his family heading back to Egypt to see his parents. The journey happened to be in a dark cold night. They lost their way, and he spotted a fire (actually a light) in a valley called Tuwa. This is narrated in Surah Ta-Ha 20: 9-10.
MULIA: When Moses reached the spot of the light, then His Lord called him “O Moses! I am Allah, the Lord of the worlds. Indeed I am Allah, there is no God but I, therefore worship Me, and establish prayer for My remembrance”. This was the first Revelation to Moses.
