RIGHT TO BE IMAM

TEGUH: The one who should be imam is the one who is the most versed in the Quran. If two or more are equal in this, then it is the one who has the knowledge of the sunnah. If they are equal in that, then it should be the elder.

FAEZ: The meaning of “most versed in the Quran” is the one who has more of the Quran memorized. But if we pray in another place which is outside our residential area, the local imam of the other place should lead the prayer. No one should  lead without the local imam permission.

AKHTAR:It is not allowed for one who has a health problem which does not ensure him to remain in a state of purity to be an imam. While the followers who do not have such a problem.

MULIA: If the imam makes the solat too long, it is permissible under certain circumstances to leave the solat with the intention of performing it individually. Circumstances allowable such as becoming ill, fearing that one’s wealth may be lost or destroyed, fearing missing companion in travelling group etc. “To leave the solat” does not mean physically leaving the congregation but remain as you are, but need not have to follow the timing of the imam. In other words, your performance of each action in the solat will be ahead of the imam.

FAEZ: It is allowed for a follower to follow the imam, even if there is a barrier between them, as long as she can tell the imam’s movements either by his sight or hearing.

TEGUH: Many hadiths have been related which warn against anyone leading a congregation while one is disliked by them. Dislike here relates to one’s religious conduct and is based on a valid reason.
