SUKAN PERMAINAN CHESS ISLAM

RECREATION IN ISLAM

MULIA: Islam is a practical religion. It recognizes that Allah has created human beings with needs and desire, they need to eat and drink, they also need to relax and sleep, and to enjoy themselves.

AKHTAR: The life-pattern of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is a perfect example for every human being. When he was in private he would worship his Lord with such intense devotion; when dealing with people he participated in small talk, smiling and with sense of humour, yet never departing from the truth.

FAEZ: In matters pertaining to truth or justice Prophet Muhammad (saw) did not care about anyone’s opinion, seeking only the pleasure of Allah. He liked happiness and disliked grief, he sought refuge with Allah from difficulties and troubles which result in supplicating.

TEGUH: There is a saying “Season your conversation with humour in the same proportion as you season your food with salt”. It is not appropriate for Muslim to tell jokes based on what is untrue in order to make people laugh.

MULIA: There are many kinds of games permissible to Muslims, such as foot racing, wrestling, archery, spear throwing, horseback riding, swimming and hunting. However, any act involves the torturing and unnecessary killing of an animal, and a human being has no right to have fun and sport at the expense of a living creature.

AKHTAR: Please listen to this. Prophet Muhammad (saw) allowed some Abyssinians to display their skill with spears in his mosque. This demonstrates that the mosque serves both worldly and religious purposes. However, this play is not to be merely for fun but should involve physical exercise and some sort of training.

TEGUH: Any sort of game played with money which has an element of gambling or betting is haram. Another game which is popular is chess. Some consider it halal, others makruh, and still others haram. Most of the present generation scholars allowed it.

FAEZ: As a general rule, any games are permissible only if the three conditions are met: (1) one should not get so absorbed in it that he delays his solat; (2) there should be no gambling involved, (3) no physical intermingling and free mixing among males and females who are not bound by husband/wife/children relationship.

MULIA: Islam permits singing under the condition that it not be in any way obscene or harmful to Islamic morals.
