ABLUTION TAYAMMUM
Prayer is the soul of religion. The non-praying man is rightly considered to be a soulless man. It is with prayer that man has his consciousness with his Lord.
Solat in Islam lifts not only the soul to the spiritual height, but it is also accompanied by bodily movements. It aims at purifying both body and soul.
However, solat does not aim at such a spiritual contact with Allah to a level in which the world and self are absolutely denied, in which human personality is dissolved and disappeared.
Islam does not favour such a meditation and absorption in which man ceases to be conscious of his own self.
Islam does not favour such a meditation and absorption in which man ceases to be conscious of his own self.
Ablution can be considered as one of the processes to purifying one’s body.
In performing ablution we should at least follow in this following manner:
(1) niat;
(2) wash our face;
(3) wash right forearm up to the elbow;
(4) wash left forearm up to the elbow;
(5) pass wet hands over our forehead;
(6) wash our right foot up to the ankle; and then
(7) wash our left foot up to the ankle too.
Preferably wash each action thrice. When performing ablution, one should start from the right side of the body.
Ablution does not nullified by dozing or half sleeping in a sitting posture. But certain scholars insist it should not support or lean our body behind a wall or pillar.
Renewal of ablution is necessary for one who sleeps in a state of lying down, for when he lies down his joints are relaxed and is losing consciousness completely.
One should not repeat ablution if in doubt unless he is convinced that he has lost his ablution by having hadath.
Example of hadath is passing of wind from the anus. This is one of the types of hadath. He should not leave his prayers unless he hears sound or smells something.
To repeat ablution if something is discharged or passed from either exit, front or back private parts.
If a worm comes out of one’s anus or if a drop of discharge equal to the size of a louse comes out of one’s penis, then it is essential to repeat the ablution.
Bleeding does not necessitate the repletion of ablution. One squeeze his pimples and blood come out, he need not repeat his ablution.
There is a difference of opinion amongst scholars about the question of ablution after eating the flesh of camel (very specific it is camel, not sheep etc).
According Imam Ahmad b Hambal it does break.
But other mazhab such as Imam Shafii, eating of camel’s flesh does not break the ablution.
When water is not found, then we can perform Tayammum. That is to put or strike lightly clean earth with one’s hands and then pass the palm of each on the back of the other, blow off the dust and then pass them on the face.
